What happened
A client in Phuket wanted to divorce a foreign spouse with whom contact had been lost for more than three years. The spouse's whereabouts overseas were unknown, so locating an address and arranging proper service of court documents were central issues.
What we did
We advised the client on bringing divorce proceedings in the Thai court and worked to establish the spouse's address abroad. The work included preparing the complaint, translating it into English and coordinating certification of the documents needed for overseas service.
The process also involved coordination with relevant authorities, with immigration and embassy enquiries considered where necessary to obtain address information. We arranged service of the summons and complaint abroad and guided the client through the court proceedings.
The outcome in this case
The proceedings moved forward despite the lack of contact and the overseas location of the other spouse, allowing the client to achieve the divorce sought.
The process was described using an approximate three-month timeframe from filing to an initial judgment. That was an estimate, not a fixed timetable for every international divorce.
